Registration is now closed for Curtis Summerfest 2014. Check back in the fall for information regarding Curtis Summerfest 2015.

TrioJoin us for Reading Orchestra and Chamber Music for Adult Musicians and enjoy making music with others who love playing classical music as much as you do! There are three ways to participate:

  • Set aside three evenings for inspiring orchestra sessions
  • Immerse yourself in intensive chamber-music coaching in the mornings
  • Join us for chamber-music coaching in the mornings, plus orchestra or piano studio class at night

Whichever schedule you choose, you’ll learn from distinguished faculty and play side by side with select Curtis students. Pianists can receive personalized instruction through piano studio class instead of orchestra.

Register as an individual or a preformed ensemble.

Individual registrants, with or without chamber ensemble experience, are welcome. No audition is required for admission, but we ask each participant to submit a sample of his or her playing, which informs our decisions on ensemble assignments. We also ask that you provide a repertoire list—what you’ve played in the past, whether solo, chamber, or accompanied. Finally, let us know what repertoire you’d love to play while you’re here and we’ll do our best to accommodate your requests.
If you are attending as a pre-formed group, submission of your playing is not necessary. We will ask you to submit a repertoire list—what you have played in the past as an ensemble—to help us assign you new repertoire. You’re also welcome to tell what you want to work on during the program.
New to our program this year: Set aside only two weekday nights for orchestra rehearsals so you don’t need to take days off of work! Come play in the reading orchestra side-by-side with select Curtis students. You also have the choice to take one day off to immerse yourself in intensive chamber music coaching in the mornings plus orchestra at night; or to join us just for orchestra. Either way, you’ll learn from distinguished faculty. No audition is required for admission, but we ask each participant to submit a sample of his or her playing, which informs our decisions on section placement. We also ask that you provide a repertoire list—what you’ve played in the past, whether orchestral, solo, chamber, or accompanied.

All levels are welcome to participate. Participants will be grouped in chamber ensembles by playing level to ensure maximum enjoyment for all.

Is enrollment limited to a specific number of participants?

To keep our ensembles intimate, we will accept a maximum of 30 participants for chamber music.  We encourage you to apply early as spaces are limited.

When will repertoire be assigned?

We will assign repertoire in April. After receiving repertoire assignments participants will have at least seven weeks to prepare.

Are there private lesson opportunities?

The schedule will be busy and probably will not allow time for private instruction.

Is an audition required?

No audition is required for admission, but we will ask each participant to submit a sample of his or her playing. This will inform decisions on ensemble assignments and section placement.

Are scholarships available?

Curtis Summerfest does not offer scholarships . Students and parents are urged to seek financial assistance from local sources such as school music organizations; county, state, or national music education organizations; youth orchestras and bands; music clubs; service clubs (Rotary, Kiwanas, etc.); businesses; local churches; and foundations.

Are refunds available to those who must withdraw after registering for the workshop?

We offer no refunds of any kind, including for dismissal due to violation of rules or state, federal, or local laws. There are no refunds for early departure. Exceptions may be made only in the event of a documented medical emergency, in which case room and board may be refunded on a prorated basis only. No participant will be admitted until all fees are paid in full.
